Accu-Chek Cyclebetes began in 2007 with one promise
One Champion...
and it spread.
Vancouver businessman Kyle Balagno couldn’t have imagined when he made that promise to his 12 year old daughter Taylor, that he would do everything in his power to help find a cure for her juvenile (type one) diabetes, what he had started.
The promise spawned Team H2V, a 5 man team who cycled across Canada at break neck speed in just 8 days, setting a Guinness World Record and raising one million dollars for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
But the promise for a cure didn’t stop there.
In 2008, six grade 11 students from Rock Ridge Secondary, inspired by the amazing ride of H2V, made the commitment that created the very first Accu-Chek Cyclebetes event and after weeks of planning, organizing, and 24 hours of spinning on stationary bicycles they had raised $80,000 for the JDRF.
The simple goal that fueled team H2V and the students at Rock Ridge was the desire to do something that hadn’t been done…..something big… really big.
Today, Accu-Chek Cyclebetes has grown to become is a festival of cycling events designed to bring a country, cyclist and the Type I families together in celebration of what is possible.
Accu-Chek Cyclebetes: the biggest bike relay in the world.
Delivering on a Promise. Cure Juvenile Diabetes.
